Judging begins on bumper crop for Climate Change Leadership Awards
The Climate Change Leadership Awards (CCLA) has received a record number of entries for the 2011/2012 awards and judging has now been completed following the deadline for entries of February 10.
Categories include Climate Change Heroes for schools, youth groups, communities and individuals and Waste Minimisation Heroes, as well as Private Sector including agriculture and food, energy, minerals and industrials, financial institutions, other corporate services, retail, local municipality and SME.

Amalgamated Beverage Industries (ABI) sponsors new waste minimisation category for Climate Change Leadership Awards
Amalgamated Beverage Industries (ABI), the soft drinks division of South African Breweries (SAB), will sponsor a new category in the Climate Change Leadership Awards (CCLA).
The CCLA has, in its third year, introduced the new category called Waste Minimisation Hero Award in its Climate Hero sector.
"ABI partnered with us because one of their primary concerns is around the 5Rs of waste minimisation: reduce, reuse, recycle, recover and residual management or disposal," says Jeunesse Park, founder of the CCLA and of Food & Trees for Africa.
Climate Change Leadership Awards rewards businesses big and small
The Climate Change Leadership Awards (CCLA) recognises the carbon reduction activities of large and small business through its Private Sectorgrouping in a variety of categories and rewards them with highly visible recognition in the South African business and consumer communities.
Entrants slot into one of a number of categories that include Agriculture and Food; Energy, Minerals, and Industrial; Financial Services; Corporate Services; Retail; and SME.

Extensive interest from local government in previous years has motivated the Climate Change Leadership Awards (CCLA) to this year open a Local Municipality sector.
The new sector, which falls under the overall Private Sector banner, is specifically for government agencies that measure, report, and engage the community on their carbon emissions.

The Climate Change Leadership Awards (CCLA) opened for entries on August 1, 2011. This is the third year of the competition and the CCLA is hoping to reach out to an even greater number of people and companies to widen the circle of climate change responsibility.
